I would not "pussy foot" around. Use SQL Server Express all the way. Its free, easy to install & maintain and fast! In fact, its just as much work installing & configuring MySQL as it is SSX (IMHO).
I also know lots of application vendors that now embed SSX in their products. If SAP were smart (and certainly Sybase was not) they would have an Express version of SA and ASE too with free deployment rights! :-)
Note: SSX is the full Enterprise version ... its only main restriction is to 10G of data maximum (which is a ton - IMHO)!
